Dom Mark-Ephrem M. Nolan, OSB, a Benedictine monk from Belfast, has dedicated his life to monastic renewal and ecumenical dialogue. Entering the Abbey of Bec, France, in 1979, he professed his vows in 1981 and was ordained a priest in 1986. In 1998, he led a small community of monks to establish the Monastery of the Holy Cross in Rostrevor, Northern Ireland—a place of prayer, reconciliation, and hospitality. Under his leadership, the monastery was elevated to an abbey in 2019, making him its first Abbot. Renowned for fostering Christian unity, he was twice appointed an ecumenical canon of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh. His book, Fresh Springs from an Ancient Well, chronicles the monastery’s journey, reflecting his vision of blending ancient Benedictine wisdom with the spiritual needs of today’s world.
